Dolphins v Cowboys: Hammer time at Suncorp; Lahrs steps up

The Dolphins return to a happy hunting ground at Suncorp Stadium where they have piled on 106 points in their past two games.

Those wins over the Dragons (56-6 in Round 14) and the Rabbitohs (50-28 in Round 17) were part of a hot streak that saw them pile on 228 points in five matches before succumbing to the Sharks last Thursday and dropping three places on the ladder in the process.

The dream of a first finals appearance remains very much alive but the Cowboys represent a dangerous opponent capable of piling on plenty of points when they click.

With classy fullbacks Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Scott Drinkwater and brilliant playmakers Isaiya Katoa and Tom Dearden on show this promises to be an entertaining contest to kick off the round.

Team News

Dolphins: Maroons star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is back on deck, with Jake Averillo returning to the wing as a result. Connelly Lemuelu has been promoted to the starting side after Kulikefu Finefeuiaki was ruled out with a broken thumb. Mark Nicholls will also sit out Thursday night's match after being placed in the concussion protocols. Harrison Graham and Peter Hola are the new faces on the bench.

Cowboys: Jordan McLean will miss Thursday's clash as he manages calf and ankle niggles, with Thomas Mikaele to start at prop. The injury opens the door for young gun Kaiden Lahrs to come on to the bench. Coach Todd Payten has made a change to his backline and recalled winger Jaxson Paulo for his third game of the year. Robert Derby shifts to the reserves as a result. Jake Clifford remains sidelined with a quad injury, while John Bateman's return from a groin issue has been put on ice for another week.
